Ahmed Chonchol shines as a
testament to humility, service, and unwavering advocacy. A teacher, writer, organizer, and social worker, Chonchol’s life
was defined not by accolades but by his ability to uplift others. His commitment to minority rights,
particularly in combating state violence and land rights violations, remains a
guiding light in a nation grappling with systemic inequities. This article celebrates his contributions and calls for continued
action to honor his vision.
2 A Life of Humble Service
Principal Mazed Ahmed Chonchol’s career
spanned education, community leadership, and
social reform. As a Course
Teacher for GED and BAN at RTM Al-Kabir Technical University in Sylhet, he inspired countless students, serving
also as Students Affair Adviser. His roles as Adviser of Finance at RTM HRDC,
Regional Treasurer, and former Regional Commissioner for Bangladesh Scouts in
Sylhet showcased his organizational prowess. Previously, he led as Principal of
Luthfur Rahman High School & College until 2020 and chaired Shimantik until
2018.
Chonchol’s humility was his hallmark. He
viewed himself as a “senior learner,’’ fostering mutual respect with students and colleagues. With thousands of social media followers and a wide network of
admirers, his ability to connect authentically made him a beloved figure. This humility fueled his advocacy,
allowing him to bridge divides
and champion the marginalized.

Bangladesh’s minority communities—Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, and indigenous groups— face persistent challenges, including state-sanctioned violence and land grabbing. Discriminatory policies often exacerbate these issues, leaving minorities vulnerable. Principal Chonchol’s work addressed these injustices head-on, using his roles in education and community organising to advocate for equitable treatment.
Through Shimantik and the Bangladesh Scouts,
Chonchol amplified minority
voices, emphasising land
rights as a cornerstone of human dignity. His
