Fact-Checking Policy
Last Updated: June 2026
Bangladesh HR Defender values accuracy, evidence, and responsible public-interest analysis. Our fact-checking approach is designed to support credible discussion on human rights, governance, rule of law, public policy, democratic accountability, and related issues.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that significant factual claims published on Bangladesh HR Defender are reviewed with care, supported by credible sources where possible, and presented in proper context.
Sources We Prefer
- Official documents and public records
- Legal documents, court records, laws, rules, and regulations
- Reports from recognized human rights organizations
- Government, UN, and international institutional publications
- Academic research and policy papers
- Credible news organizations and verified public statements
- Direct documentation, interviews, or evidence where ethically obtained
Verification Standards
Before publication, we aim to check:
- Whether the claim is supported by available evidence
- Whether the source is credible and relevant
- Whether the information is current or requires updating
- Whether opposing or alternative perspectives need to be acknowledged
- Whether the language used is fair, proportionate, and non-misleading
Opinion and Analysis
Bangladesh HR Defender publishes analysis, commentary, and policy reflection. Opinion-based content may include interpretation, argument, or recommendations, but factual claims within such content should still be grounded in reliable information.
Human Rights Documentation
When publishing sensitive human rights information, we seek to avoid unnecessary harm, protect dignity, and avoid exposing vulnerable persons to additional risk. Where needed, identifying details may be limited or omitted for safety and ethical reasons.
Limitations
Some issues may involve incomplete public information, ongoing investigations, contested facts, or rapidly changing events. In such cases, we may clearly indicate uncertainty, update content later, or publish cautious analysis rather than definitive claims.
Corrections
If a factual error is identified after publication, we will review the issue and make corrections according to our Corrections Policy.
