When Vulnerability Meets Impunity: The Silent Suffering of Bangladesh’s Minorities
The image above reflects a reality that remains largely unspoken inside Bangladesh:
elderly citizens from minority communities continue to suffer in silence as the rule of law collapses around them.
This man’s face captures decades of fear, displacement, and systemic marginalization—
a life lived under the shadow of insecurity simply because of his identity.
Across Bangladesh, religious and ethnic minorities frequently face:
-
targeted intimidation,
-
arbitrary attacks,
-
destruction of homes and livelihoods,
-
and a complete absence of justice.
Despite repeated appeals to national institutions, impunity remains the norm, and victims continue to carry their trauma alone.
This post is a call to the international community—especially the European Union—to recognise that these incidents are not isolated.
They form part of a broader, escalating pattern of human rights violations that require urgent attention, independent monitoring, and protective mechanisms.
